The Personal Training Account allows thousands of employees and freelancers each year to train in various fields. Oenology is one of them, but under stricter conditions than one might often imagine. Since the recent reforms of the CPF, the simple label “recognized training” is no longer sufficient to obtain funding. What matters now is the alignment between the targeted certification, the accreditation of the organization, and the official MonCompteFormation catalog.

Three cumulative criteria for an oenology training to be eligible for CPF

Before looking for an organization or comparing programs, it is essential to check a technical point that conditions everything else. For an oenology training to be genuinely fundable by the CPF, three conditions must be met simultaneously.

  • The training organization must be Qualiopi certified, the national quality reference for professional training actions.
  • The training must prepare for a certification registered and active in the RNCP (National Directory of Professional Certifications) or the RS (Specific Directory).
  • It must be effectively listed in the official MonCompteFormation catalog at the time of registration, not just on the school’s website.

The absence of any one of these criteria makes CPF funding impossible. Several organizations still display mentions such as “CPF eligible training” on their commercial pages even though their certification has expired or the program no longer appears in the catalog.

The only way to be sure is to go through the MonCompteFormation platform and search directly for the training by its title or the name of the organization. It is possible to fund your oenology training cpf as long as these three barriers are lifted.

RNCP or Specific Directory: two paths with different ceilings

Not all oenology certifications are equal from the CPF perspective. The distinction between RNCP and RS has direct consequences on the amount that can be mobilized.

Trainings that prepare for an RNCP certification in sommelier or wine professions are not subject to a CPF rights ceiling. These are generally long courses aimed at professional retraining or skill enhancement in hospitality, wine commerce, or consulting.

In contrast, certifications listed in the Specific Directory are capped at 1,500 euros of CPF rights mobilizable per training. This applies, for example, to certain tasting or wine initiation certificates. An advanced WSET program, depending on its registration in the RS or RNCP, may fall under either regime.

This distinction is almost never mentioned by organizations in their communication. However, it changes the game for an employee whose CPF balance is close to this ceiling and who is considering a training whose cost exceeds it.

Co-payment and out-of-pocket expenses in 2026

CPF funding is no longer full funding. Since decree no. 2026-234, a mandatory financial contribution of 150 euros applies to any registration from April 2, 2026. This “co-payment” applies to all trainings funded through the CPF, including oenology.

Who is exempt from the co-payment

Some situations allow for exemption from this contribution. Job seekers registered with France Travail (formerly Pôle emploi) are exempt. This is also the case when the employer or an OPCO co-finances the training, or within certain health prevention or retraining schemes.

For an employee in a position without co-financing, the minimal out-of-pocket expense is therefore 150 euros, even if the CPF balance covers the entire displayed price. For an oenology training billed around the RS ceiling, this represents a significant portion of the total budget.

Additional contributions to reduce out-of-pocket expenses

Several sources of additional funding can complement CPF rights and absorb the difference. France Travail, regional councils, Agefiph for workers with disabilities, or even the employer directly through a branch agreement can intervene.

The process is not automatic. Each organization must be contacted separately, prior to registration, and provide the supporting documents related to the professional project. Processing times vary, which requires planning several weeks before the training start date.

WSET trainings and CPF: what is actually accessible

The WSET (Wine & Spirit Education Trust) is the international reference for oenology certification. Three levels exist, but their eligibility for CPF varies.

According to information published by the Oenovino school, only WSET level 3 has been eligible for CPF since early 2026, and only within the framework of a professional project. Levels 1 and 2, often chosen for initiation or personal deepening, do not benefit from this funding.

This restriction effectively excludes a large portion of candidates who simply wish to develop their tasting knowledge without aiming for retraining. The CPF remains a device linked to employability, and certification commissions apply this filter more and more strictly.

Other certifications exist outside of WSET. Some schools offer programs such as “Advising and Promoting Wines” or cellar certificates, with formats in-person or online. Again, the reflex to adopt is to check the actual presence of the program on MonCompteFormation before any commitment.

What CPF does not fund in oenology

Public tasting workshops, evening initiation courses, weekend discovery in a vineyard: none of these fall within the CPF scope. The system excludes any training without registered certification, regardless of its pedagogical interest.

Trainings offered by associations, independent wine merchants, or vineyards without Qualiopi certification are also out of scope. Even a quality program delivered by a recognized professional cannot be funded if it does not meet the three regulatory criteria mentioned above.

Field feedback varies on the actual ease of access to funding. Some candidates report refusals related to the absence of a link between the targeted certification and their declared professional project. The CPF is not a universal training voucher, and the MonCompteFormation platform now integrates more thorough checks on the coherence of the pathway.

The regulatory framework of the CPF applied to oenology remains a shifting ground. Registrations in the RNCP and RS evolve, ceilings may be revised, and the amount of the co-payment has already been raised once. Before embarking, direct verification on MonCompteFormation and contacting the training organization remain the two most reliable actions.
